The FIAV International Festival of Video Art Casablanca, on its 23rd edition, is organized by the Université Hassan II, the Faculté des Lettres et des Sciences Humaines Ben M’Sik and the Institut Français de Casablanca au Maroc. Artistic direction by Majid Seddati. FIAV is held in Casablanca, Morocco, 24 to 29 April 2017.
Regina Hübner stands for Austria beside 23 video-artists from 13 nations, as Algeria, Canada, Germany, Georgia, Great Britain, Greece, France, Iran, Italy, Luxembourg, Morocco, Togo and United States, in the International Selection, with Carte Blanche by Mohamed Thara. Her videowork possibilities will be shown at L’Unzine Foundation Touria et Abdelaziz TAZI, Route de Rabat, Casablanca, Saturday 29 April at 3 pm.
possibilities is one of the earliest video-works by Regina Hübner, and since 1999 it has been exhibited in different ambientations, as at the MLAC Museum of Contemporary Art of the University La Sapienza Rome, the Austrian Cultural Forum Rome, the Kittredge Gallery Washington, the Claremont Gallery Los Angeles, the Jewett Arts Center Gallery Massachusetts and at the first edition of luxflux.net.
The theme of possibilities is about the fact that telling and understanding depend on our status as subjects. It shows the image of a speaking mouth out of focus. The film is mute. Text lines on the borders are running as fast in opposite directions, as it is not possible to read the whole phrases. The observer’s eyes will focus on single words, extrapolating details from the context. The observer can see very well the movements of the lips while he cannot hear the pronounced words. What will the observer understand? I tell you something. You will understand something.
Regina Hübner is the performer of the film, speaking continuously for about 30 minutes and she is the author of the text possibilities in German, which runs in opposite directions, on the film’s borders. possibilities, 1999/2017, digital colour video, mute, text animation, 28’40” real time (6’7″ excerpt).
